But will kids eat 'em?

Vegiforms

A clear two-piece plastic mold, VegiForms are secured over a vigorously growing fruit or vegetable while it is still on the vine. In about a week, the vegetable grows to fill the mold, permanently taking the shape of the mold. VegiForms are available in five basic shapes: the Garden Elf, the Pickle Pusses, and Ear of Corn; and, for the gourmet gardener, the Heart and Diamond, which yield heart and diamond shaped slices when cut.

Greenhouse Window

window-0396.jpg

We have a narrow service porch with a washer/drier. It used to contain a deep, nearly useless closet. We hired a carpenter to join it to a similar closet in the adjacent room. Now we have a pantry. While he was at it, we had him take out the window and install a greenhouse window. Amaryllis, paperwhites, and an orchid are growing here now.

Old and new roses

roses-0398.jpg

The old tea rose (left) quickly grow large -- the young tea roses (right) grow slowly.

(The rose against the wall to the right is Mermaid, a climber that we plan to
trellis soon.)

Other than severely pruning the old rose, are there any options to
balance the sizes?

Artichoke bed

artichoke-0403.jpg

Originally, we placed artichokes around the yard as ornamentals.

That's fine until they got leggy and needed support. So now we've
combined them in one raised bed -- this the left side. The entire
bed is approximately 4' deep x 6' long, and contains 5 artichoke
plants. They seem to like the placement and we might have
artichokes by January.

Malo slumbers

malopond-0401.jpg

Malo the Flesh-Eating Turtle from Hell crawled under a pile of
decomposing water hyacinth (middle bottom of picture) to hibernate.

We'd lift the pile & snap a picture for you, but he almost gave Sandi
a heart attack by hissing loudly and quite menacingly
when she found him.

While he sleeps, we're going to double the size of his pond
and increase his enclosure by a third.
