Old and new roses

roses-0398.jpg

The old tea rose (left) quickly grow large -- the young tea roses (right) grow slowly.

(The rose against the wall to the right is Mermaid, a climber that we plan to
trellis soon.)

Other than severely pruning the old rose, are there any options to
balance the sizes?
