In the San Fernando Valley, we go directly from winter to summer, with no mild weather suitable for dutch bulbs. Tulips "blast" -- come up looking like somebody lit a match under each leaf.
One good thing about the proposed move to Connecticut: spring. I'm fondling the catalogs. Check out the tulips at Old House Gardens. Sadly, they are already sold out -- but a girl can dream.
