Does alpaca yarn felt?
Yep.
Swatch before felting (above): Roughly eight-inch square of floppy knit.
Swatch after felting (below): solid, silky, pettable and just five inches.
Much nicer than wool felt, and hypoallergenic (no lanolin). Sweet.
